State of the Animas

The river is really starting to swell. USGS measured 3,120 cu. ft/s this morning. Compare these pictures with ones I took a little while back. It has also taken on its silty chocolate color that I  love so dearly. "Too thick to drink, too thin to plow"--Mark Twain.

This is what it looks like now if you are standing on the bridge near Rotary Park. The water is at approx. 1060 cu. feet per second.

This is what the Animas looks like currently. According to USGS data, it is at 190 cubic feet/second. That's pretty low, as you can see.

Chocolate River

When the river runs high, it ought to look like this. A rich, chocolate, silty red-brown mix flowing fluidly down the channel. This is a picture from last year. I will post a current (no pun intended) picture of the river tomorrow
