There's a hole in this stone. It comes as a result of differential erosion. There was originally a concretion within this rind of sandstone, but as it became exposed, the minerals within weathered out and left a void. I find lots of rocks like this in this particular layer of sediment known as the Point Lookout sandstone, which is part of the MesaVerde Group
