Narrow Guage Railroad

Durango wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the train. It was because of trains that Durango was established, and it is because of trains that Durango has a great tourist season. I am looking forward to the summer when the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad has it's full route to Silverton open. One of the coolest options is to use the train to access the Weminuche Wilderness for some backcountry camping.

  1. I was actually reading this morning about narrow gauge railroads. The Jupiter train in the Smithsonian was narrow gauge? Lots of trains went out of business in the late 1800's apparently when the tracks were standardized using a wider model. Nice photo. Like the steam.
