Yellow Flower Detail

I don't know the name of these flowers, but they really caught my attention. I will have to do some reasearch on these guys cause I'd really like to have some in my own yard. I also think these may be some of the last flowers of the season. It looks like they are soaking it up!

Cloud to Mountain

Clouds from a passing storm get hung up on the La Platas. After this storm passed , the mountains proudly displayed their new coat of snow. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a pic after the storm. I took this picture from Trappers Crossing, a subdivision southwest of town. As always, click the picture for a closer look.

Fall in Durango IV

One of my absolute favorite views in town. I snapped this shot on the Animas River Trail right next to the library and fish hatchery. The river in this stretch flows past slowly before it goes through the millrace section past downtown. If you didn't already know better, would you believe this picture was taken in the middle of town?

Lemon Reservoir

First off, I feel I should apologize for the low-quality of this picture. I took it out of the window of our work vehicle with my camera phone. That said, what you are looking at is the northern end of Lemon Reservoir, which like all the other reservoir around is suffering an extremely low level of water. All the flat, grassy area in view would normally be submerged by at least 15 feet (5 m) of water. Lemon is on the Florida River and is a storage area in the mountains for Durango drinking water. Aside from the low water, Lemon is looking really great right now. The foliage is really going off and the hillside around the area are amazing. If you find that you are in the area, do yourself a favor and check it out. It won't last long.

Cresent Moon at sunset

Things on blogger seem to be working again so here is my post for the day. I was walking across the Fort Lewis campus when I captured this photo. It was about a week ago, so the phase of the moon is not current.

Won't be too long now

There is a wind blowing. A wind of change. The Oaks and Aspens feel it. Some people with funny bones can feel it. Winter is coming. So we can all go slipping and sliding down hills covered in snow.

Fall in Durango II

I couldn't help posting another shot of the bridge from yesterday. I wish this was my yard!

Fall Colors of Durango

Fall is rushing right along in these parts. Here at 6512, the oaks and other scrubby plants are busily putting on their fall colors and painting the hills with uncommon hues

Sunflower Garden

I snapped this photo on the corner of 13th and E. 2nd Ave. I really liked how the sunflowers added the missing element of color to the side of this grey building.

Model Trains

This awesome model train set is located inside the museum at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot in Durango. I could only capture a small part of the entire set. There are around 5-6 little trains going round at any particular time.

On the ridge trail

Took a short hike up to the trail that traverses Raiders Ridge. I always love going up there to look at the rocks and enjoy the views. Here I was looking southwest..

The Good Life

Everyday I go to work, and everyday I am reminded that I am living the Good Life. This picture was taken out near Hesperus. The La Plata Mountains rise to meet the sky.

The Diamond Belle Saloon

I love this place. It has a really cool atmosphere, the food is great, and there are great people watching opportunities. Located inside the Strater Hotel, this establishment is loaded with history. A visit is a must for any traveler to Durango

River rocks and bridge shadow

I was crossing the swinging bridge and I was struck by how low the water level is. A lot of rocks were exposed and the ones that weren't were barely below the surface. The current water flow is around 160 cfs (Cubic feet per second). Follow this link to see more stream data

Golden Light

A storm conceals the La Platas behind a sheet of rain and scatters the light.
